Children are more than a score

Christine Blower, General Secretary of the National Union of Teachers, the largest teachers’ union says that

It is nothing short of scandalous that some of our youngest pupils are seeing themselves as a score. From four years of age onwards, children are having the joy and enthusiasm for learning squeezed out of them. Tests and assessments are dominating the school life of our youngest pupils. Teachers report children who are anxious before tests, and dispirited afterwards if they feel like failures

The NUT have asked Nicky Morgan to cancel these tests for 2016. She’s not listening. Parents don’t have a union but they do have Parent Power on 3rd May.

  1. This is what we didn’t want to happen to our children. We were already seeing anxiety from ‘informal’ testing. This relentless drive towards standardising childhood was one of the reasons we took our children out of school. We have huge respect for what you are doing.
